CELINE FLYNN

Artist statement

My body of work is developed from the passing of time of plants in my garden through covid 19 lockdown. The process that I used to capture this movement of time through the life cycle of the plants was pencil sketches, paintings and photography.

Using the observation skills that I have learnt through the last four years, I was able to heighten my awareness of the textures found in the plants. Through photography techniques of twisting the images, allowed me to enhance the negative spaces and light refractions found through untapping the obscure textural make up of the plants.

The development of this body of work is to use unconventional tools that enables the viewer a feeling of being drawn into the paintings, by the rhythmic flow of the undulating surfaces in the work and by adding textural elements drawing in on the tactility of the work.
